The Community Garden is sponsored by The Grange of Guilford, New Creation Community Presbyterian Church, Slow Food and Goat Lady Dairy, and was established in the spring of 2005. We use the principles of lasagna gardening, building each bed by layering, first lime, then newspaper, then compost and mulch. Compost made by the goats and chickens at Goat Lady Dairy provide the foundation of the beds. The soil has proved to be fertile enough to grow several varieties of vegetables and herbs.
The garden welcomes anyone who wishes to participate. We care for the soil and environment and grow clean food by tilling the soil with hand tools to promote growth of beneficial worms and bugs, using organic and natural fertilizers, such as fish emulsion, and eliminating the use of chemical pesticides and herbicides.
