New Creation Community became involved in ministry in Xocenpich, Mexico, in the 80’s through Hazel Clawson, now a member of New Creation. Hazel responded to God’s call to work in Xocenpich, a former Presbyterian mission with a clinic, practical nurse’s training program, a Bible school for the preparation of lay leaders, and a Presbyterian Church at the age of 68 after the death of her husband. For the next 25 years she spent two months each year in the village providing a variety of services including making uniforms for the nurses, teaching sewing classes, planting a demonstration garden, distributing seeds, serving as a housemother for the nursing students, and, most importantly, sharing God’s love with the villagers.
New Creation currently provides financial assistance to the mission and has gone to Xocenpich on 5 mission trips. Activities on the trips have included various building projects, painting, renovation of the Bible School kitchen in the mornings and a Bible school for children in the afternoons. Between 200 to 300 children and parents participated in the Bible school. Most important were the times spent interacting with the students and villagers and the relationships that grew out of these trips.
